By-Election Postponed

Political parties like AIADMK, MDMK, PMK and CPI(M) has asked the election commission to postpone the by-election to the Pennagaram Assembly constituency to February since there are a lot of festive occasions in January.But the ruling party DMK and its alliance partner congress has asked the election commission not to “set a wrong precedent” by postponing the by-elections.Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu said that if the by-elections were postponed then the political parties might ask for a similar demand citing different festive occasions in the future.Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy backed Thangkabalu’s decision and also said that the opposition just wants to postpone the victory of the DMK and its allies.
